My name is Rachel Gardner and I’m studying at UNE to become a marine biologist. I’ve known this is what I wanted to do since I was seven years old. It all started with the movie Jaws (which I was shown at age five) which scared the pants off me. I was convinced my family and I was going to be eaten so I read all I could about sharks and how to stop them from attacking my family. Well that fear turned into an absolute love of sharks and the ocean!
Originally I’m from a small town in upstate New York. I was raised there my entire life and most of my family is located there. I have always grown up around animals, more specifically cats, and have a strong love for them. During middle school and high school I actually volunteered at a local cat shelter! I enjoy reading and writing; my favorite book series is Eragon by Christopher Paolini and I tend to write mostly fantasy if I’m not writing for class. I love most forms of music and tend to be listening to some type of music most of the time. I’m also a big fan of winter and the cold.
