Course Description: This specialized course will provide an overview of elasmobranch biology with an emphasis on anatomy, physiology, and ecology of sharks, skates, and rays. A comparative approach will be used to illustrate the similarities and fascinating differences between these animals and other organisms within their environment. The uniqueness of this group and their adaptations will be demonstrated through selected topics that will be addressed using lecture/discussion of contemporary literature.
Student Description: This course has helped me understand the biology and anatomy of elasmobranchs as well as the different fishery systems in place surrounding them. It has helped me get more comfortable reading and understanding scientific papers as well as presenting on scientific papers.
